Instagram post 18010386724600597 LAND is thrilled to share the success of @lavacoalition, #lavacoalition.

Announced today and in a recent exclusive @cmonstah @latimes, our coalition of 33 small to medium sized visual arts organizations, has raised $2,660,000 in a scalable, sustainable model to collectively fundraise, share, and amplify financial resources and infrastructure.

Created by the directors of organizations that present, produce, and promote contemporary visual culture in #LosAngeles, LAVA arose out of a belief that a mutually supportive ecosystem would nourish each entity and ensure the visual arts in our cultural capital are healthy and vibrant.

We are delighted to share that we have reached a major milestone and provided every member organization with $50,000 in unrestricted funds.

LAVA organizations directly serve an unprecedented 34 diverse neighborhoods with new, experimental, and community-based art. In 2022, we collectively presented over 100 exhibitions, 1,240 public programs, and welcomed over 350,000 visitors.

We would like to thank @mellonfoundation @teigerfoundation for their catalyzing grants, as well as the Jerry and Terri Kohl Family Foundation, Krupp Family Foundation, @ruthfoundationforthearts, @metabolicStudio, and Betsy Greenberg.

Congratulations to our fellow LAVA members and collaborators! @activeculturesla, @armoryarts, @avenue50studio, @politicalgraphics, @centerforlanduseinterpretation, @clockshopla, @coaxialarts, @craftcontemporary, @crenshawdairymart, #equitablevitrines, @feministcenterforcreativework, @fulcrumarts, @gyopo.us, @humanresources, @theicala, @joanlosangeles, @laartcore, @lacommons, @lafreewaves, @laxart, @lacarchive, @welcometolace, @nomadicdivision, @lapovertydepartment, @makcenter, @museumofjurassictechnology, @navel.la, @shg1970, @sidestreetorg, @sparcinla, @solacontemporary, @themistakeroom, @vpam_arts.

Instagram post 18069392815367588 LAND is pleased to celebrate Jackie Amézquita (@jackieamezquita) as part of the inaugural cohort of artists to receive the recently launched Mohn LAND Grants.

Mohn LAND Grants is a new and ambitious initiative to introduce, and invest in, emerging Los Angeles artists, providing them with a platform to present site-responsive, transdisciplinary work across Los Angeles County and to serve as a first formal public presentation. Over a five year cycle, up to 20 artists will receive Mohn LAND Grants to realize intentional and community-focused public projects ranging from large-scale sculpture commissions to street level interventions. The initiative reflects LAND’s mission to empower artists to have autonomy over the presentation of their work and in more direct relationship with the public.

Jackie Amézquita (b. 1985, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala) migrated to the U.S. in 2003. Her work explores narratives of migration and how people navigate power structures and unites performances, site specific activations, installations and organic materials such as masa, soil, salt, hydrated lime, and produce to explore a visual language that investigates modes of adaptation, and integration in the aftermath of migration.

This weekend, LAND is partnering with @welcometolace to present Jackie Amézquita's Gemidos de la Tierra (Wailings of the Land/Soil) as a citywide procession across Los Angeles. Learn more about Jackie's project and the Mohn LAND Grants at the link in our bio.
