In 2021, artist and horticulturalist Alika Cooper began hosting monthly outdoor plant sales in the open parking lot next to her home on the eastside of Los Angeles. During these one-day events, artists and gardening enthusiasts alike gathered to explore small cacti and succulents, rare houseplants, craft drinks, bbq, native plants, handmade ceramics, and other fantastic offerings. The joyfulness of these gatherings made them an open-air, accessible way to connect with and support the Los Angeles art community during a challenging time. Since then, PLANT SALE LA has grown from seven vendors in a backyard to large seasonal events held in collaboration with some of Los Angeles’ favorite spaces for contemporary art.
Maydan Market was born from a desire to build a global village that highlights the impressive culinary world of Los Angeles, creates community & helps to lower barriers to entry in the food and beverage industry. This new concept will be a home for small businesses to flourish, anchored by a live fire hearth, like its original namesake restaurant.
