South Central Los Angeles
ABOUT THE PROJECT
sister dreamer, lauren halsey’s architectural ode to tha surge n splurge of south central los angeles is a monument to the community of South Central Los Angeles by artist Lauren Halsey.
In 2006, Halsey began designing sister dreamer while studying architecture at El Camino Community College. The work investigates what architecture can be and how public space can invite collective creation. While prototypes of varying elements have been previously exhibited at museums across the country, Halsey always imagined the fully realized monument embedded within South Central Los Angeles, the neighborhood Halsey and her family have called home for generations.
Presented by Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND), sister dreamer will be open to the public free of cost from March 2026 to November 2027 in South Central Los Angeles. The monument will be activated by a comprehensive schedule of free public programs by Summaeverythang Community Center, Halsey’s nonprofit organization.
