Join us on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 11am for a walkthrough with artists Teresa Baker (@tttttbaker) and Felix Quintana (@felixfquintana) of their new artworks installed at the Los Angeles County Hall of Records in Downtown Los Angeles. ⁠

As part of LAND's first permanent public commission, artworks by Baker and Quintana were developed with the LA County Department of Arts and Culture’s Civic Art Division for the Los Angeles Department of Regional Planning (LADRP) offices at the Hall of Records. ⁠

Each artist will share about their practice as well as their unique approaches to creating a public commission. ⁠
⁠⁠

As LAND celebrates our 15th anniversary, we’re l

As LAND celebrates our 15th anniversary, we’re looking back at some of the projects and programs in our organization’s history.⁠

In December 2010, LAND Director and Curator Shamim M. Momin, Aaron Bondaroff and Al Moran, Creative Directors of OHWOW, organized a one-evening exhibition. Installed at Flagler Memorial Island, “the island” featured the work of 17 artists, including newly commissioned installations, sculptures, multi-media works, and ephemeral interventions.⁠
⁠
Visitors were transported to “the island” by boat and received maps that guided them through foliage, sandbars, and into the water itself to discover the artworks on view. ⁠Seen here is one of those pieces: “Count Matchuki’s Last Selection” (2010) by Luis Gispert. The 10-foot tall palm frond, painted gold, slowly rotated on a base in one of the island’s clearings, paying homage to Jamaican deejay Count Matchuki.⁠

We hope to see you on Saturday, November 23 from 12pm-1pm for a special reading @francoisghebaly. For her latest exhibition, “Las plantas de ese jardín conservaban en la sombra sus colores,” Los Angeles-based Argentinian painter Patricia Iglesias Peco (@patopeco) continues her exploration of the natural world. Peco draws influence from the Uruguayan poet Marosa di Giorgio (1932-2004) and the feminine cosmology elaborated in her writing. Enjoy an afternoon of readings featuring the work of di Giorgio from invited readers. Free to attend; link in bio to RSVP.
