Free timed tickets are now available for Lita Albuquerque: Malibu Line. Link in bio.

Join us on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, 2024 to experience a new iteration of the artist’s 1978 ephemeral pigment earthwork. Albuquerque will be onsite, leading brief guided meditations at 11:30am and 2:30pm each day.

This new iteration of Malibu Line commences a multi-year project in which Albuquerque will connect her current home in California with her first home in Tunisia by way of a forthcoming pigment installation located in North Africa.

Lita Albuquerque: Malibu Line is organized by independent curator Ikram Lakhdhar. Generous support is provided by Pasadena Art Alliance and Berry Stein.

LAND is thrilled to announce additional dates to experience Lita Albuquerque: Malibu Line, a new iteration of the artist’s 1978 ephemeral pigment earthwork. Earlier this summer, tickets to visit Malibu Line sold out quickly. We couldn't be happier to have another opportunity to share this personal and historic artwork by one of Los Angeles’s most renowned artists. ⁠

LAND recently organized an Indigenous plant walk for the staff of the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning (@lacdrp) at the Baldwin Hills Overlook with Gabrieleno Kizh Tribal Botanist Matt Teutimez alongside @nature_nexus, who has been stewarding remediation efforts of the park.⁠

The walk provided context for a commissioned artwork by Teresa Baker (@tttttbaker), whose large-scale work Wenot (Life Giver), 2024, is an abstracted representation of the topography of Los Angeles County. Made of Astroturf and yarn, the artwork includes Indigenous plants and organic materials collected throughout the County.⁠

During the walk, Matt shared insights on the precolonial history of the region, the relationship between natural resources and Indigenous communities, and the ways that local flora and fauna can contribute to our wellbeing. The walk also included information on how to steward the land using traditional Indigenous knowledge.⁠

We look forward to sharing more about the process of creating the work and unveiling it this fall. ⁠

As part of the multisite exhibition fantasma paraiso / phantom paradise, @felixfquintana installed his work at @plazamexicola in Lynwood, a significant community hub in his hometown. 📍 ⁠

Before installing the work, Quintana held a workshop where he met with community members from the area and invited them to contribute to the archival prints that appear on site. Scroll through to see scenes from Plaza Mexico. ⁠
