Save the date: Join us on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 10am for the launch of the HORUS III rocket and test firing of the experimental mycelial rocket fuel at Friends of Amateur Rocketry Site in Randsburg, CA. Limited number of tickets available December 16, 2024⁠. ⁠

This event is the culmination of @daidroy.jpg’s project, “S.H.R.O.O.M. (Sustainable Hybrid Rocket Optimization with Organic Materials).” 🚀 Roy has researched and developed a mycelium-based, organic rocket propellant in collaboration with artist and mycologist Sam Shoemaker (@samkshoemaker). ⁠

Tickets will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis to an extremely limited number of attendees. A $15 fee is required to secure your spot; funds go directly to Friends of Amateur Rocketry. ⁠

This Friday, December 6 at 11am, Teresa Baker (@tttttbaker) and Felix Quintana (@felixfquintana) will give walkthroughs of their new artworks, commissioned by the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture (@lacountyarts) installed at the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning (@LACDRP) offices at the Los Angeles County Hall of Records in Downtown Los Angeles. The works are visible to the public on the 13th floor.

Loosely resembling a map of LA county, Baker’s “Wenot (Life Giver)” highlights natural features—the LA River, San Gabriel Mountains, and the Pacific Ocean—and blends them with materials, colors, and forms that reflect the First Peoples of this region.⁠
⁠
Quintana’s artwork, “La sal de la tierra (The Salt of the Earth),” combines more than 50 layers of photos from the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning archives, personal documentation, and portraits of community members.⁠

As part of LAND's first permanent public commission, artworks by Baker and Quintana were developed with the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture’s Civic Art Division for the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning offices at the Los Angeles County Hall of Records. ⁠

Each artist will share about their practice as well as their unique approaches to creating a public commission. ⁠
