LAND will present a culminating exhibition of Grinnan's sculptural instruments and astrological charts/diagrams which emphasize Grinnan's vision and process, along with two installations of high definition video projections. These video projections will be comprised of footage from the past performances of the Astrology Orchestra from the Integratron, and the 60" telescope at the Mount Wilson Observatory as part of KNOWLEDGES. Both of these projections will be dome-shaped to form a complete circle, echoing the architecture of the spaces in which the original performances took place and the shape of the instruments and the planets. An additional video piece will detail the performance of the Astrology Orchestra at Venice Beach.

This exhibition will be on display in Los Angeles in early 2013.

Painting in Place

Painting in Place is a group exhibition of contemporary painting which will be presented in the historic Farmers and Merchants Bank in Downtown Los Angeles (401 South Main Street Los Angeles, CA 90013).

The exhibition will present a wide array of work from contemporary artists that tackle painting from various perspectives, using both traditional and unconventional techniques and media in their approach to the discipline. Exploring various ways that the definition of painting is continuously evolving, the project seeks to expand the traditional parameters of painting, sculpture, and installation: blurred, deconstructed, and refigured.

Three overlapping themes permeate the exhibition: the representation or metaphor of the body/self, memory and the passing of time, and the depiction and negotiation of spatial environments and architectural structures. Subjects will be explored, investigated, and highlighted through the juxtaposition and placement of these paintings within the site-specific context of the historic bank, built in 1905, which is still a cornerstone of Downtown Los Angeles.

Manifest Destiny
Fall 2013

The Manifest Destiny Billboard Project is a series of artist-produced billboards and activations that will unfold along the Interstate 10 Freeway. Spanning the United States from Florida to the California Coast, the project will map out the American fantasy of Westward expansionism by moving through and punctuating the narrative of the landscape itself. Initiated by artist Zoe Crosher, the project will be an involved collaboration between Crosher and several artists, including Eve Fowler, Bobbi Woods, and Mario Ybarra Jr. This project will allow each of the artists to explore their shared investigations into the development of society and cities, specifically the westward manifestation that has built Los Angeles into the cultural epicenter that it claims today.
